The mission of the Professional Fire Fighters Local 4116 is to ensure that the citizens of Castle Rock are protected by the safest fire department available. Our focus is on the safety, fairness and wellness of our members.
Our members take great pride in providing the citizens of Castle Rock with these services at a staffing level that is below national standard recommendations. The National Fire Protection Agency 1710 standard recommends a minimum staffing level of four on an engine and six on a ladder truck. However, due to rapid growth and the Town's budgetary restrictions, the Castle Rock Fire Department routinely operates 3 person engine companies and 3 person quint (ladder) companies, supported by 2 person ambulance companies when they are not transporting to the hospital. This means that when Engine 153 arrives at a fire scene with 3 people, without life safety involvement, there could be a 5-8 minute delay in interior firefighting operations to ensure proper safety. Local 4116 is making every attempt to operate both efficiently and safely under these conditions but looks forward to working with the department and the Town in establishing the goal to raise the staffing levels to national safety standards.
"The Castle Rock Fire and Rescue Department (CRFD) protects the life and property of all residents in a 75-square-mile area including the Town of Castle Rock and the Castle Rock Fire Protection District in Douglas County. Founded in 1892, the department has 69 (56 line staff) career personnel and 15 volunteers who staff four fire/rescue stations 24 hours a day to provide fire and medical services to the community. The department operates two ladder trucks, two engines, and two ambulances.
A full service, CRFD provides fire prevention/inspection services, fire suppression (structural, wildland, and vehicle), advanced life support emergency medical services (paramedic ambulance transportation), public and risk reduction education, hazardous materials/WMD response and mitigation, and technical rescue (trench, confined space, building collapse, and water rescue) services. In 2006, the Department responded to more than 3,800 calls.
CRFD is the EMS provider for the Town and Fire Protection District, including emergency medical transport. Paramedics staff all fire engines and ambulances. The average response time is five minutes and 50 seconds and the department’s cardiac save rate is 29 percent - nearly three times the national average of 10 percent. " - taken from www.crgov.com
